"If Obama refuses to send more troops, ends the war, and continues to phase-out the Iraq war, there are those who believe it will have a devastating political effect, turning him into a one-term president, as historian Garry Wills suggests on the New York Review blog.
"Yet even that, says Wills, an Obama supporter from the earliest days, would be preferable to sending more and more young Americans into the slaughter: 'I had great hopes for the Obama presidency, even in his first term, and especially if he could have two terms to realize the exciting new things he aspires to do in the White House. But I would rather see him a one-term president than have him pass on another unwinnable war to the man who will follow him in office.'
