"However, a year into Obama’s presidency CNN announced that while African Americans are extremely supportive of the President their enthusiasm appears to have dwindled from the beginning of 2009.
"A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey found that only 42 percent of black Americans say that they are ‘happy’ about Obama’s presidency down from 61 percent last January.
"'African-Americans are still big fans of the first black president in US history but the thrill is gone,' said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
"Imani Perry Professor at the Centre for African American Studies at Princeton University believes black Americans are beginning to be critique their president.
"'Slowly, we are beginning to hear more African Americans who are in the public eye offering criticisms of some of President Obama's policies and positions. I think this is a positive development. African Americans, like any other sector of the society, should critically evaluate leaders irrespective of race. Racial loyalty should not cloud our judgment of political leaders,' she said."
