"Prominent voices on the left of the Democratic party have grown increasingly concerned at what they see as too little change people can believe in, particularly on issues liberal activists are passionate about, such as healthcare legislation and America's wars.
"Some of the most strident criticism has come from the former Democratic party chairman Howard Dean, who denounced the Senate's healthcare bill as "not worth passing" after Obama urged it to drop plans for a government-run insurance option in order to win votes in Congress.
"Dean denounced it as a gift to private insurance firms and warned that the proposed bill 'would do more harm than good to the future of America'.
"'No one will think this is healthcare reform. This is not even insurance reform,' Dean said.
"Liberals are also fired up about Obama's decision to go along with the US military's demand for tens of thousands more troops to fight the Taliban. Several members of Congress who were solid supporters of the president openly challenged him over the troop increase. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives and a strong Obama loyalist, said the president still had to 'make his case' before she would throw her support behind it.
"Outside the Democratic party, Michael Moore, the film-maker and Obama cheerleader, warned the president that he had become the 'new war president'."
"If a man from America of the 1950s were suddenly introduced into America in the 2000s, he would hardly recognize it as the same country. He would be in immediate danger of getting mugged, carjacked or worse, because he would not have learned to live in constant fear. He would not know that he shouldn’t go into certain parts of the city, that his car must not only be locked but equipped with an alarm, that he dare not go to sleep at night without locking the windows and bolting the doors – and setting the electronic security system.
"If he brought his family with him, he and his wife would probably cheerfully pack their children off to the nearest public school. When the children came home in the afternoon and told them they had to go through a metal detector to get in the building, had been given some funny white powder by another kid and learned that homosexuality is normal and good, the parents would be uncomprehending.
"In the office, the man might light up a cigarette, drop a reference to the little lady, and say he was happy to see the firm employing some Negroes in important positions. Any of those acts would earn a swift reprimand, and together they might get him fired.
"When she went into the city to shop, the wife would put on a nice suit, hat, and possibly gloves. She would not understand why people stared, and mocked.
"And when the whole family sat down after dinner and turned on the television, they would not understand how pornography from some sleazy, blank-fronted 'Adults Only' kiosk had gotten on their set.
"Were they able, our 1950s family would head back to the 1950s as fast as they could, with a gripping horror story to tell. Their story would be of a nation that had decayed and degenerated at a fantastic pace, moving in less than a half a century from the greatest country on earth to a Third World nation, overrun by crime, noise, drugs and dirt. The fall of Rome was graceful by comparison."
If Olbermann called me the "Worst Person in the World," that would be welcome publicity I could not pay for.
"If one accepts this explanation, then a pair of black people having intercourse will produce black children. A pair of caucasians engaging in sex will produce white children. Magically, if a person of one race sleeps with somebody of a different race, the child will be mixed race. In fact, they will be biracial. This is revolutionary to those who do not know that the prefix 'bi' means two.
"According to my math, Barack Obama being biracial and Rod Blagojevich being completely caucasian makes Barack Obama blacker than Rod Blagojevich. According to this model, Obama is blacker.
"(By the way, unless your response to this is “who the heck cares?” then you spend too much time obsessing about race. Being blacker is not a positive or negative development. It just is.)
"If Obama is blacker, then Blagojevich made stupid comments.
"Yet maybe the comments were not stupid. Maybe Blagojevich is blacker.
"Using liberal methods of analysis, this may be the case.
"Black grievance-mongers and the guilty white liberals they prey on see blackness as a feeling, attitude, and lifestyle. Bill Clinton was the first black President. Clarence Thomas is not black.
"This is insulting.
"Bill Clinton did have positive achievements growing up. He did well in school and received a college scholarship. Yet that is not what made him 'black.' He never knew his birth father, and grew up with an alcoholic abusive stepfather. That is his 'blackness.'
"What a terrible message it sends to people when one can be considered 'black' because they come from a dysfunctional family.
"Yes, he was committed to civil rights, but his awful childhood was what he trumpeted.
"Clarence Thomas and other blacks who rise out of poverty are told that they are 'acting white.'
"Bill Cosby has been calling out the black community for celebrating low achievers, criminals and thugs.
"Charles Payne is a brilliant Wall Street commentator who got beat up by other black kids because he wanted to be a successful businessman. This is insane.
"The National Basketball Association found that more kids admired Alan Iverson than Kobe Bryant. Iverson had troubles with the law, while Kobe was a law abiding citizen. Then Kobe got accused of rape, and magically his “street cred” went up.
"So if Blagojevich grew up poor while Obama partied in Hawaii, then according to the liberal model, Obama is whiter because he had a more comfortable life as a young adulthood.
"(Obama did have a rough childhood, but Blagojevich claimed that his was even worse. This leads to the equally idiotic notion that winning a poverty contest is of any more value than winning a pigmentation contest. At least kids who brag that they are wealthier make sense. Pride in poverty is illogical. Next we will have kids bragging on the playground that they have the smallest genitals. A boy will jump up in down in celebration at having a smaller one than a girl, which will lead to many questions about both kids.)
"Liberals keep trying to have it both ways (not talking about genders and genitals).
"First they claim that black is white and white is black, provided that liberals get to decide.
"Then when a Democrat utters the same idiocy that the left has repeatedly claimed, he is pilloried.
"Yes, Blagojevich made stupid remarks. Blagojevich is as Blagojevich does.
"Yet liberals calling his remarks stupid is hypocritical.
"Until the left acknowledges that black conservatives are blacker than white liberals, and that race has nothing to do with any political position on affirmative action, the Blagojevich standard will stick.
"Blagojevich was stupid for saying what he did.
"The Democratic Party is stupid for perpetuating the very stupidity that they disavow when convenient.
"It’s the stupidity, stupid."
What I want to address is the “Legend” that has become Martin Luther King Jr. or that he has become.
This morning I was guest on a Talk Radio program and as it was MLK day, the host wanted my opinion on President Obama and what Dr. King would have thought of him and his policies. Now almost every conservative talk show host I have heard that has address it, (the really smart ones do not even go there) has said the same thing. Martin Luther King would be against the actions and policies of Barack Obama and black leadership today. As I read blogs, Face Book post and any other communication especially from black conservatives, I hear the same refrain.
So when I was asked the question this morning “what do you think Martin Luther King would say to Barack Obama and his policies, I responded, “I think he would support them.” The host was shocked and silent for just a moment. Not what he was expecting. I went on to explain that near the end of his life Dr. King had essentially become a spokesman for the liberal left. His main focus had turned from civil rights to protesting the war in Viet Nam and a broader agenda of “Social Justice.” I suspect that this was due a true feeling of compassion for the “Least of These,” but also to his losing support in the black community to the likes of the more radical Stokely Carmichael and H. “Rap” Brown, as well as finding such willing and ample support from the “Left.”
Conservatives, black and white are almost, if not downright, afraid to admit this fact. Dr. King was the Pied Piper and the Black Community were either the Rats or the children that were led astray, depending on what makes you feel better. This is the road that Black America has continued on to this day. Since his untimely death Dr. King’s name has been exalted to Saint or at the least Iconic status. Liberals, black and white, throw Dr. King’s name around as their mentor and teacher, while conservatives, black and white try to claim some ownership in him based upon the one phrase “not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” If you do not believe me or think I am full of it, just ask any conservative to quote another line from any other speech of Dr. King’s, particularly one that speaks to conservative principles. You know I am right.
I am sorry, but I cannot play that game. Dr. King was a gifted and I believe sincere man who I also believe was on the right track early in his life and ministry. He had the potential to pick up the mantle and finish the job Booker T. Washington had started some 50-75 years earlier. But I think when the time came and he was met by that proverbial fork in the road, Dr. King chose the road of expediency instead of the road grounded in eternal truth. That road was a more difficult and the journey a more arduous one, but in my opinion it would have led black Americans to a far better destination.
I may be wrong, but I do not think so. I think it is time for people to stand up and face truth head on. What Would Martin Luther King Jr. (WWMLKD) do? I think he would do just exactly what 90% of black preachers are doing today. He would support Barack Obama, more government, and attack free enterprise as being evil and opposed to the message of social justice.
Let me close by saying, I respect Dr. King and the impact he made upon this nation. I respect him in the same manner that I respect W.E.B. DuBois as a brilliant intellectual. I must, however, separate what I think about a person and their accomplishments from the reality of the impact they made on society as it affects thought and culture. In Dr. King’s case, I believe that affect has not been all good as much as we want it to be so. Black conservatives have to be willing to tell it like it is and not get caught up in the cult of celebrity worship. Let’s make a clear distinction in a biblical world view and feel good syncretistic substitutes.
I pray that we may redeem the legend and the legacy of Dr. King as it was in its pure and early stage.
"A mysterious visitor who each year leaves roses and cognac at the grave of Edgar Allan Poe on the writer's birthday failed to show early Tuesday, breaking with a ritual that began more than 60 years ago.
"'I'm confused, befuddled,' said Jeff Jerome, curator of the Poe House and Museum. 'I don't know what's going on.'"
Brother X says: "It's because we have a black president now!"
"With 60 Senate votes, Democrats are able to prevent Republican filibusters and push through legislation. With only 59, Democrats would need Republican support, which in today's increasingly rancorous partisan divide looks unlikely to happen.
"The president showed his alarm Sunday when he took time off from the Haiti earthquake crisis and other pressing issues (like Michelle's birthday -- Robert) to campaign in Boston."
"Facebook is full of death threats and other vicious material about Rifqa Bary, the teenage convert from Islam to Christianity who is in a fight for her life in juvenile court on Franklin County, Ohio. She left Islam and converted to Christianity, and she has been persecuted for it ever since.
"Rifqa’s life is now on the line. Back in September I reported at my website AtlasShrugs.com on the first Rifqa Bary Facebook Fatwa: a Facebook group that said openly, 'we need to kill her,' and was full of Muslim members. Now add this to the list of fatwas and death threats against Rifqa Bary: a Facebook group, again with numerous Muslim members, proclaiming, 'Don’t save Rifqa Bary, let them kill her.' Although I have called attention to that group, it is still on Facebook. It has 64 members, all of them apparently Muslims. Not a Moishe in the mix.
"Imagine, these are just the ones we catch. Only G-d knows how many hit squads are out for this young woman.
"Another Facebook group screams, 'F*** RIFQA BARY !!! SHAME FOR ISLAM !!!!” It has 57 members – once again, all Muslims. This one openly admits what CAIR and other front groups in America lie about: 'In Islam, yes, apostasy is the death penalty.'"
Brother X: "It's Bush's fault nobody is on the phones!"
