War spending surges in President Obama's budget

Brother X says "No. It must be 'War Spending Surges in President Bush's budget.' I must find ways to blame Bush somehow."

The Myth of Right-Wing Hate

Herman Cain: State of the Union just got worse

"The new debt limit is bad news because whenever Congress raises the limit, then it is just a matter of time before they come close to it and have to raise it again. It is called runaway tsunami spending.

"The new debt limit is also bad news because it represents an additional $5,000 for every man, woman and child living in this country. This is on top of the $40,000 of debt the government had already committed for each of us. Sooner or later, it will have to be repaid, or eventually the state of our union will be bankrupt. Unlike some big banks and General Motors, the U.S. is not too big to fail. Uncle Sam does not have a bailout 'sugar daddy.'

"More federal debt is driving down the value of our U.S. dollar, thus, reducing our spending power as consumers domestically and in the global marketplace.

"More federal debt and the uncertainty of what the Democrat-controlled Congress will do about the existing tax rates that will expire at the end of this year keeps businesses in a state of stop. As long as that remains, the economy will remain in a state of stalled."

Obama Letting It Ride on a Bad Bet

"Since taking office, Obama has continued to see the presidency as the perfect perch from which to campaign for a job he already has. The solution to every problem the White House runs into is 'more Obama.'"

"His colleague Sam is less understanding. 'I don’t think he done nothing, the situation’s got worse and worse for me,' he complained. 'His slogan was change but now he’s saying change is not just up to me. Well, that wasn’t what he said in the elections.'"

Abolish the Fed

In the House of Representatives, September 10, 2002

Mr. Speaker, I rise to introduce legislation to restore financial stability to America's economy by abolishing the Federal Reserve. I also ask unanimous consent to insert the attached article by Lew Rockwell, president of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute, which explains the benefits of abolishing the Fed and restoring the gold standard, into the record.

Since the creation of the Federal Reserve, middle and working-class Americans have been victimized by a boom-and-bust monetary policy. In addition, most Americans have suffered a steadily eroding purchasing power because of the Federal Reserve's inflationary policies. This represents a real, if hidden, tax imposed on the American people.

From the Great Depression, to the stagflation of the seventies, to the burst of the dotcom bubble last year, every economic downturn suffered by the country over the last 80 years can be traced to Federal Reserve policy. The Fed has followed a consistent policy of flooding the economy with easy money, leading to a misallocation of resources and an artificial "boom" followed by a recession or depression when the Fed-created bubble bursts.

With a stable currency, American exporters will no longer be held hostage to an erratic monetary policy. Stabilizing the currency will also give Americans new incentives to save as they will no longer have to fear inflation eroding their savings. Those members concerned about increasing America's exports or the low rate of savings should be enthusiastic supporters of this legislation.

Though the Federal Reserve policy harms the average American, it benefits those in a position to take advantage of the cycles in monetary policy. The main beneficiaries are those who receive access to artificially inflated money and/or credit before the inflationary effects of the policy impact the entire economy. Federal Reserve policies also benefit big spending politicians who use the inflated currency created by the Fed to hide the true costs of the welfare-warfare state. It is time for Congress to put the interests of the American people ahead of the special interests and their own appetite for big government.

Abolishing the Federal Reserve will allow Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over monetary policy. The United States Constitution grants to Congress the authority to coin money and regulate the value of the currency. The Constitution does not give Congress the authority to delegate control over monetary policy to a central bank. Furthermore, the Constitution certainly does not empower the federal government to erode the American standard of living via an inflationary monetary policy.

In fact, Congress' constitutional mandate regarding monetary policy should only permit currency backed by stable commodities such as silver and gold to be used as legal tender. Therefore, abolishing the Federal Reserve and returning to a constitutional system will enable America to return to the type of monetary system envisioned by our nation's founders: one where the value of money is consistent because it is tied to a commodity such as gold. Such a monetary system is the basis of a true free-market economy.

In conclusion, Mr. Speaker, I urge my colleagues to stand up for working Americans by putting an end to the manipulation of the money supply which erodes Americans' standard of living, enlarges big government, and enriches well-connected elites, by cosponsoring my legislation to abolish the Federal Reserve.
WHY GOLD?
By Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

As with all matters of investment, everything is clear in hindsight. Had you bought gold mutual funds earlier this year, they might have appreciated more than 100 percent. Gold has risen $60 since March 2001 to the latest spot price of $326.

Why wasn't it obvious? The Fed has been inflating the dollar as never before, driving interest rates down to absurdly low levels, even as the federal government has been pushing a mercantile trade policy, and New York City, the hub of the world economy, continues to be threatened by terrorism. The government is failing to prevent more successful attacks by not backing down from foreign policy disasters and by not allowing planes to arm themselves. These are all conditions that make gold particularly attractive.

Or perhaps it is not so obvious why this is true. It's been three decades since the dollar's tie to gold was completely severed, to the hosannas of mainstream economists. There is no stash of gold held by the Fed or the Treasury that backs our currency system. The government owns gold but not as a monetary asset. It owns it the same way it owns national parks and fighter planes. It's just another asset the government keeps to itself.

The dollar, and all our money, is nothing more and nothing less than what it looks like: a cut piece of linen paper with fancy printing on it. You can exchange it for other currency at a fixed rate and for any good or service at a flexible rate. But there is no established exchange rate between the dollar and gold, either at home or internationally.

The supply of money is not limited by the amount of gold. Gold is just another good for which the dollar can be exchanged, and in that sense is legally no different from a gallon of milk, a tank of gas, or an hour of babysitting services.

Why, then, do people turn to gold in times like these? What is gold used for? Yes, there are industrial uses and there are consumer uses in jewelry and the like. But recessions and inflations don't cause people to want to wear more jewelry or stock up on industrial metal. The investor demand ultimately reflects consumer demand for gold. But that still leaves us with the question of why the consumer demand exists in the first place. Why gold and not sugar or wheat or something else?

There is no getting away from it: investor markets have memories of the days when gold was money. In fact, in the whole history of civilization, gold has served as the basic money of all people wherever it's been available. Other precious metals have been valued and coined, but gold always emerged on top in the great competition for what constitutes the most valuable commodity of all.

There is nothing intrinsic about gold that makes it money. It has certain properties that lend itself to monetary use, like portability, divisibility, scarcity, durability, and uniformity. But these are just descriptors of certain qualities of the metal, not explanations as to why it became money. Gold became money for only one reason: because that's what the markets chose.

Why isn't gold money now? Because governments destroyed the gold standard. Why? Because they regarded it as too inflexible. To be sure, monetary inflexibility is the friend of free markets. Without the ability to create money out of nothing, governments tend to run tight financial ships. Banks are more careful about the lending when they can't rely on a lender of last resort with access to a money-creation machine like the Fed.

A fixed money stock means that overall prices are generally more stable. The problems of inflation and business cycles disappear entirely. Under the gold standard, in fact, increased market productivity causes prices to generally decline over time as the purchasing power of money increases.

In 1967, Alan Greenspan once wrote an article called Gold and Economic Freedom. He wrote that:
"An almost hysterical antagonism toward the gold standard is one issue which unites statists of all persuasions. They seem to sense – perhaps more clearly and subtly than many consistent defenders of laissez-faire – that gold and economic freedom are inseparable, that the gold standard is an instrument of laissez-faire and that each implies and requires the other. . . . This is the shabby secret of the welfare statists' tirades against gold. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. It stands as a protector of property rights."

He was right. Gold and freedom go together. Gold money is both the result of freedom and its leading protector. When money is as good as gold, the government cannot manipulate the supply for its own purposes. Just as the rule of law puts limits on the despotic use of police power, a gold standard puts extreme limits on the government's ability to spend, borrow, and otherwise create crazy unworkable programs. It is forced to raise its revenue through taxation, not inflation, and generally keep its house in order.

Without the gold standard, government is free to work with the Fed to inflate the currency without limit. Even in our own times, we've seen governments do that and thereby spread mass misery.

Now, all governments are stupid but not all are so stupid as to pull stunts like this. Most of the time, governments are pleased to inflate their currencies so long as they don't have to pay the price in the form of mass bankruptcies, falling exchange rates, and inflation.

In the real world, of course, there is a lag time between cause and effect. The Fed has been inflating the currency at very high levels for longer than a year. The consequences of this disastrous policy are showing up only recently in the form of a falling dollar and higher gold prices. And so what does the Fed do? It is pulling back now. For the first time in nearly ten years, some measures of money (M2 and MZM) are showing a falling money stock, which is likely to prompt a second dip in the continuing recession.

Greenspan now finds himself on the horns of a very serious dilemma. If he continues to pull back on money, the economy could tip into a serious recession. This is especially a danger given rising protectionism, which mirrors the events of the early 1930s. On the other hand, a continuation of the loose policy he has pursued for a year endangers the value of the dollar overseas.

How much easier matters were when we didn't have to rely on the wisdom of exalted monetary central planners like Greenspan. Under the gold standard, the supply of money regulated itself. The government kept within limits. Banks were more cautious. Savings were high because credit was tight and saving was rewarded. This approach to economics is the foundation of a sustainable prosperity.

We don't have that system now for the country or the world, but individuals are showing their preferences once again. By driving up the price of gold, prompting gold producers to become profitable again, the people are expressing their lack of confidence in their leaders. They have decided to protect themselves and not trust the state. That is the hidden message behind the new luster of gold.

Is a gold standard feasible again? Of course. The dollar could be redefined in terms of gold. Interest rates would reflect the real supply and demand for credit. We could shut down the Fed and we would never need to worry again what the chairman of the Fed wanted. There was a time when Greenspan was nostalgic for such a system. Investors of the world have come to embrace this view even as Greenspan has completely abandoned it.

What keeps the gold standard from becoming a reality again is the love of big government and war. If we ever fall in love with freedom again, the gold standard will once more become a hot issue in public debate.

Blame It On Bush - But What Did Senator Obama Do?

Dear Friends & Colleagues:

I need your help. Didn't the Democrats take control of Congress in 2005 after the 2004 elections? Does this mean that they have had control of Congress for the past five years? Isn't it Congress job to write legislation and approve the budget? If this is true, how can Obama and Democrats blame Bush, who, as President, only have the power to propose budgets, sign legislation that is passed by Congress or veto such legislation?

As Senator, how many laws did Senator Obama and his Democratic colleagues (who controlled Congress) introduce, pass, or sponsor and co-sponsor to head off our economic crisis? during the past five years, how many laws did he (and his colleagues) introduce, pass or sponsor to reform Health Care? How many laws did he and his fellow Democrats pass, sponsor or co-sponsor to create jobs and stop the growth of unemployment that was occuring at that time? Isn't it true that the Democratic controlled Congress had to approve all spending and budgets? Then who is really the blame?

The Obama-Ayers incestuous money trail

"This is a story of millions of dollars that created an incestuous money trail being used to radicalize the Chicago education system and turn it into the socialist model used by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

:This is also a story about how a father tried to use his power and money to rehabilitate his son, felon-on-the-run and unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, and turn him into the socialist prince of Chicago. Tom Ayers enabled his son, Bill, to continue his addiction to communist causes by helping him raise millions of dollars through relationships among Chicago's corporate and philanthropic community for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge.

"Tom Ayers used those connections and his political power so his son could help his newly hired employee, Barack Obama

, become a force in Chicago politics. Through the Chicago Annenburge Challenge, Bill Ayers mentored Obama for four years about how to destroy the capitalist system from the inside. Their tactics mirrored those employed by dictator Hugo Chavez, which are designed to radicalize the education system."

Global warming science implodes overseas: American media silent

"The revelations have been nothing short of jaw dropping. Dozens - yes dozens - of claims made in the IPCC 2007 report on climate change that was supposed to represent the 'consensus' of 2500 of the world's climate scientists have been shown to be bogus, or faulty, or not properly vetted, or simply pulled out of thin air.

"We know this because newspapers in Great Britain are doing their job; vetting the 2007 report item by item, coming up with shocking news about global warming claims that formed the basis of argument by climate change advocates who were pressuring the US and western industrialized democracies to transfer trillions of dollars in wealth to the third world and cede sovereignty to the UN."

"The incoherent State of the Union address this week only reinforced what is becoming painfully obvious to any observer--President Obama's proposals are more confusing than clarifying, they pretend to do something big but don't achieve it, and they seem desperately out of touch with the average American.

"How else can one explain that following his involvement in the campaign, he helped lose a Senate seat in Massachusetts that had belonged to his party since before his own birth?

"'But,' you may argue, 'the State of the Union was last week, what about his accomplishment since?'"

FECK obama Team

"Obama spent a record $744 million on his campaign but has disclosed donors for only $485 million of his windfall. Many of those donors are subject to questions about exceeding campaign donation limits and being legitimate donors. His campaign spent $312 million on Broadcast Media (versus $63 million by the McCain Campaign) while groups like ACORN received funding and abused voter registration processes. Obama further refuses to disclose information about his own citizenship, employment, health and education while claiming policies of transparency.

"In addition to the $259 million with undisclosed donors, studies of the reports filed with the FEC, by the Obama Campaign, through the 2008 Year End Report, show the following irregularities in their submissions:

• $1.8 million — Contributions over the $4,600 limit (1,608 contributors)

• $26 million — Contributions over the $2,300 per campaign limit, reallocated without contributor affirmation.

• $4 million — Contributors with Foreign Addresses (4,158 contributors)

"Details have been submitted to the FEC as complaint MUR6142 and are posted at:

"And while holding these funds, the campaign reports year end cash on hand of $15.5 million. Is the Obama Campaign spending money that is not legally theirs?"

Republican Response – The Black Sphere

Obama called this meeting not to get inputs from the Republicans, but to ACT like he is getting inputs from the Republicans. Recall his smug reminder to Republicans, “I won!”

Obama is taking a page from The Art of War and is attempting to dismiss his loss, and use his opponents win against them. The “never let them see you sweat” approach.

If Obama really wanted this meeting to occur for the right reasons, he would have done it within his first week of his presidency, not a year! The Great Uniter essentially told Republicans to go stick their thumbs up their butts, while he legislated left of Trotsky!

Thankfully the grassroots stepped in to protect the Republicans or Republicans would have rolled over like trained seals. Our job apparently is not finished.

Obama cares about two things: (1) His hide and (2) the destruction of America as we have all known it.

The subtlety of the video is that Republicans are acting as if this was some magical meeting with the messiah. I know they appear tough in the video, however don’t believe the hype. Most of these guys are career politicians, and easily beguiled. Like the majority of politicians, they are hedging their bets…just in case Obama regains his popularity. Watch it again, and note the wishy-washy language.

Most have forgotten Scott Brown and are already preparing to “reach across the aisle,” and it’s not to choke a Regressive? Well I say, you take the Limbaugh approach, and make sure his policies don’t work. Because any slight revival is good for Obama, not America. Improvement would only further Obama’s Communist agenda.

Obama just got his boney ass kicked in MA, and by a freaking nude model, and Republicans are ready to spoon with these Regressive Democrat traitors. Republicans are dusting off the same old tired ineffective tactics that have been tried over and over, all to impress an America who is sick of Obama and his band of thieves, and the lack of true differences between the Parties.

What better time than now for Republicans to say, “See, I told you Democrats are this frickin’ crazy!”

America is also tired of professional bureaucrats who have been in government way too long, and who believe the people’s seats are their seats!

Due to Republican failings, God had to end Kennedy’s reign over MA, and the grassroots had to smoke Dodd. For other Liberals too stupid to smell the grass clippings, know this…the new Conservative America ain’t Astroturf!

I believe most Americans are like me, that is, tired of backing a group of losers. Losers negotiate, winners gloat! Winners talk in 3rd-person, like boxers who have just kicked the crap out of the loser, long since dispatched to his dressing room or better yet…the hospital. No paparazzi for the loser, unless he dies!

Meanwhile the loser’s girlfriend stands ringside ready to boink, guess who…the winner!

Here’s the wrap:

The Republicans should not consider compromise with Obama for anything. You don’t win in a Liberal enclave like MA and negotiate from a position of compromise. Republicans should deal with Obama like political heavyweight champions, showcasing their new championship belt that has at its center Obama’s well-kicked balls.

One speech does not a successful administration make. Obama still has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. All Obama needs is a little push…into the grave!

America has rejected Obama’s policies, and resoundingly so. The policies that need to come forward now should be Republican…period!

Obama would love to co-sponsor some token legislation with built-in scapegoats! He would be happy to take credit for the good, or in the event of failure feed America a few evil Republicans…the other white meat!

Republicans need to recall what Obama said during the election. Then they need to look at his actions. Because Obama words are as empty as a Liberal’s skull!

It’s time for Obama to have a humbling. It’s long overdue. And it’s time for the world to witness the exceptionalism of America again.

Finally, it’s time for Republicans shift tactics; engage in the fight that the grassroots have waged over the past year. In case Republicans aren’t aware…we’re WINNING!

That’s my rant!

Witness Who Knew About Obama’s Citizenship Info Murdered in Gangland-style "Hit"

"Within one month after the last access of Obama’s Passport data, on April 17, 2008, Mr. Harris was murdered in his car in front of Judah House Praise Baptist Church in northeast D.C. with multiple close-range gunshot wounds in a 'gangland'-style 'hit.' Click here for Police Blotter report.

"There are many unanswered questions regarding these disturbing incidents.
• What happened to Obama’s Passport data?
• Was the data in his file changed?
• Who is covering up this story?
• Why was Mr. Leiutenant Quarles Harris murdered at point-blank range with multiple gunshot wounds?
• Who wanted to silence him?
• What did Obama and his minions know about any of this?
• What, if anything, did Obama and his campaign have to gain with Mr. Harris out of the way?
• Why did Obama give an interview to ABC News (see video at -28 secs.) shortly after his data was accessed curiously stating, “We need to get to the bottom of this, not because I have any particular concerns…”. Why raise an issue only to strike it down if it's not an issue unless you're hiding something? Methinks the then-Senator doth protesteth too much!
• Why would Obama volunteer he didn’t “have any particular concerns” when at that point there were no issues regarding his birth certificate or Pakistan travel? (At that point the lack of a birth certificate was not a known issue, nor had Obama yet disclosed his 1981 travel to Pakistan.)
• What has happened to the other people involved in this Passport case? The others who were involved with the State Dep’t breach?

"To be clear, we are NOT implying or asserting in any manner that Mr. Obama or his minions had anything to do with the 'hit' made on Mr. Harris, but, it is clear that Obama conceivably had much to gain with Mr. Harris out of the way, since Harris allegedly knew the true status of Obama's citizenship and was cooperating with the Bush DOJ. After all, Obama's campaign has spent approximately $1 million to fight against the release of his birth certificate showing his citizenship. Why? What's he hiding? It seems to us that a rational, reasonable person who wishes to be the Leader of the Free World would readily and gladly provide a legitimate birth certificate. Why did he first release an arguably forged 'Certificate of Live Birth' (not a birth certificate) to the leftwing Daily Kos website even before he published it on his own campaign website? Where are the investigative journalists to follow up on this?? NYTimes, Wash Post, Woodward, Bernstein, ABC News, MSNBC? Anybody listening? For the sake of our nation, I dare mainstream journalists to pursue this story!"

SNL: Obama State of the Union

"Saturday Night Live opened with its take on Obama's State of the Union address."

Cato Institute Scholars Analyze the 2010 State of the Union Address

“Deficit Of Trust”

During his State-of-the-Union address Wednesday night, President Obama spoke about a deficit of trust between the American people and political leaders. New Rasmussen Reports polling on the president’s speech shows just how deep that trust deficit has become.

The president in the speech declared that his administration has cut taxes for 95% of Americans. He even chided Republicans for not applauding on that point. However, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that taxes have been cut for 95% of Americans. Most (53%) say it has not happened, and 26% are not sure. Other polling shows that nearly half the nation’s voters expect their own taxes to go up during the Obama years.

The president also asserted that “after two years of recession, the economy is growing again.” Just 35% of voters believe that statement is true, while 50% say it is false.

Obama claimed that steps taken by his team are responsible for putting two million people to work “who would otherwise be unemployed.” Just 27% of voters say that statement is true. Fifty-one percent (51%) say it’s false.

CBO: Stimulus $75 Bln More Expensive Than Estimated

"Looking ahead, it appears that ARRA will have larger effects in later years than originally estimated. All told, CBO now anticipates that the law will increase deficits by $862 billion between 2009 and 2019..."

Andrew Wilson: Humpty-Dumpty and King Barack

"Why -- with youth unemployment in our nation's cities running at close to 30 percent -- was there no mention of the idea of lowering the minimum wage, which now stands at $7.25, up from $6.55 as of last July 24? Surely the president must realize that if you (the government in this case) make it more expensive for employers to hire unskilled workers, they will hire fewer of them.

"Ditto, obviously, with Obamacare. If the government wants to force all employers to provide health insurance and then wants to enforce mandates that will drive up the cost of that insurance, it must expect companies to get by with fewer hires and to contract out more work to temporary workers or outside contractors.

"And then of course there is the Obama-backed initiative that would allow unions to gain exclusive bargaining rights at more companies without the need for a secret ballot. This too would be guaranteed to drive up the cost of labor. But Mr. Obama did not use his state-of-the-union address to dump this singularly ill-advised idea. Nor did he talk about the role that unions have played in bankrupting the U.S. domestic auto industry -- and thereby destroying tens of thousands of jobs and putting a like number on government life support.

"The president reveals some of his worst instincts -- bordering really on the bizarre -- in the area of international commerce. Mr. Obama's call for an all-out effort to double the nation's exports in five years is probably the worst idea since Jimmy Carter called for energy independence back in 1979."

CBO: Troop surge in Afghanistan to cost $36 billion over the next three years

"The Congressional Budget Office on Friday estimated that President Barack Obama’s plan to send an additional 30,000 troops to Afghanistan likely will cost about $36 billion between 2010 and 2013.

"CBO estimated the costs of increasing the number of troops in and around Afghanistan from about 70,000 at the end of fiscal year 2009 to about 100,000 by July 2010, averaging 85,000 personnel for fiscal year 2010, according to CBO director Douglas Elemendorf."

Black Media in Chicago Locks Out Republicans…

"No other ethnic political apparatus in this country is so firmly in the pocket of one party as African-Americans and the Democratic Party. For decades, Democrats have pandered to African-Americans at election time, then forgot their promises a day later. And yet, we keep coming back, waiting for more empty promises.

"The Black Press is complicit in this abusive relationship. Let’s look at one recent example. In the run-up to the 2010 elections in Illinois, no black media outlet completely ignored every Republican primary. All of them. The mainstream press, on the other hand, weighed in on both the Democratic and Republican primaries. Justifiably outraged by this, Republican nominee for the Congressional seat currently held by Jesse Jackson, Jr penned this open letter to the Illinois Black media."

"Ratings for Olbermann's Countdown have been soft recently, and the 8 p.m. shows on CNN and HLN have narrowed the gap. In the important demographic of adults 25 to 54 -- the group advertisers are looking to reach -- Countdown was down 44% year-over-year in January. It averaged 268,000 viewers in that demo, only 3,000 more than Nancy Grace's show on HLN, and 12,000 more than CNN's Campbell Brown. Fox News's O'Reilly Factor dominated the hour with 964,000 viewers age 25 to 54, and was the only cable news show in the time period to increase its audience, by 55%."

Obama’s Hypocrisy On Foreign Donations Is Staggering

"President Obama is displaying an arrogance and hypocrisy that is staggering. During his campaign for the presidency in 2008, there was clear evidence that his campaign coffers were filled with between $12.8 million to $63 million from overseas credit cards or foreign currency purchases! There were 37,000 overseas contributors. Many of these donations were in $200 amounts – and thus the identities of these individuals are not reportable. The donations had come from at least 50 nations and major cities abroad.

"In October, 2008, the Republican National Committee filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission over these shady overseas contributions. The RNC complaint asserted that Obama had accepted $33.8 million from 11,500 foreign nationals. The RNC complaint alleges that pro-Obama fundraisers were held for him in Nigeria and that Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi stated that foreign nationals may have funded Obama's campaign.

"Whether it's 37,000 or 11,500 foreign contributors, the fact remains that a lot of foreign money poured into Obama's campaign. He and his political operatives didn't seem to object to getting foreign money at the time."

I'm Sick of "Inherited"
The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush, blah blah blah.
Amazingly enough, a lot of people swallow this nonsense.
So once more, I'll try a short civics lesson.
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for Fiscal Year 2008 and Fiscal Year 2009, as well as Fiscal Year 2010 and Fiscal Year 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases. For Fiscal Year 2009, though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid by passed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the Fiscal Year 2009 budgets.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete Fiscal Year 2009.
Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period:
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.

"The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false."

Obama's Stunning Admission

"The last thing I will say, though -- let me say this about health care and the health care debate, because I think it also bears on a whole lot of other issues. If you look at the package that we've presented -- and there's some stray cats and dogs that got in there that we were eliminating, we were in the process of eliminating. For example, we said from the start that it was going to be important for us to be consistent in saying to people if you can have your -- if you want to keep the health insurance you got, you can keep it, that you're not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your decision making. And I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge. [emphasis added]

"If we take this statement at face value, President Obama is admitting the the health care bills passed by either the House or Senate (or both) contained provisions which were 'snuck in' - presumably by Democratic members and perhaps on behalf of certain lobbyists - that would have in fact prevented people from keeping their current insurance and/or choosing the doctor they want."

Official US policy: kill American citizens when President/Fuhrer declares them “terrorist”

"We know MCA was intended for American citizens because the US government has applied it to American citizens and argued for its use rather than the US Constitution’s provisions through the first two levels of federal court. The current legal standing through federal court decision is that MCA is applicable to US citizens upon the dictate of the executive branch."

A Really Mediocre President

"In a December 18 interview, President Obama stated that he 'would rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.' Several things need to be said about this apparently straightforward remark".

White House: Your Concerns About Jobs Are "Petty"

"Apparently, the Obama administration cannot agree on which misleading job statistic to use during interviews. The vast differences in these job statistics would leave any concerned person asking a variety of questions. Since Americans have invested billions of taxpayer dollars into the 'stimulus', they should have every right to know how exactly these 'saved' jobs are being calculated and the accuracy of this data. According to White House spokesman Bill Burton, these reasonable questions should be deemed 'petty.'”

Turn Our Country Around

A new day is dawning. Our country is at a turning point. This is a time of great possibility.

Issued as a public service by the Communist Party USA

The choice is clear. Stay with the Bush-McCain race to the bottom or raise up the whole country with a landslide defeat of the Republican ultra-right on November 4.

A new day is dawning. Our country is at a turning point. This is a time of great possibility. Across the land, people are coming together to reshape our nation’s priorities to make government “of, by and for the people” a reality.

From the Midwest to the South, from coast to coast, in big cities and rural communities voters have turned out in record numbers for change.

A landslide vote on November 4 can open the way to recovery from the very deep wounds of the Bush administration and decades of corporate right-wing control.

There is a crisis in every critical area of national life. Profits at the top are record high, but families can’t make ends meet. Trillions are squandered in Iraq, but 45 million are without health care. Billions are spent on tax breaks to the super rich, but working families are losing their homes and young people can’t afford higher education.

Working people want bold new policies to end war restore democratic traditions and create green living wage jobs, affordable housing, healthcare and quality education for everyone.

Republican John McCain, the candidate of the military industrial complex, will continue the Bush agenda. “100 years” in Iraq, Social Security privatization, and tax cuts for the rich. His Republican partners in Congress have blocked, stalled or gutted every bill that benefits working people since they lost majority control in 2006.

Although the ultra-right is weakened and divided, they continue to push fear, division, racism and anti-immigrant bigotry in this year’s elections, aided and abetted by the corporate media. These multi-pronged poisonous tactics can only be overcome with unbreakable unity.

The choice is clear. Stay with the Bush-McCain race to the bottom or raise up the whole country with a landslide defeat of the Republican ultra-right on November 4.

Voters are demanding a new kind of politics to rebuild our country for the common good. A democratic spirit of unity and hope is inspiring millions to get involved.

During the Great Depression of the 1930’s, unemployed workers and their allies marched and organized until public works jobs, Social Security and New Deal programs were won. In the 1960’s the great civil rights movement won the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

In 2008, union members, African Americans, Latinos, youth and women, seniors, environmental and peace voters are forging a powerful new all encompassing movement that makes great changes possible.

Help make history. Talk with co-workers, neighbors, friends and family. Volunteer to knock on doors, make calls, get online to turnout a landslide defeat of the Republican ultra-right on November 4, and keep the movement going.

EMERGENCY PROGRAM TO REPAIR, RENEW AND REBUILD

We offer these proposals as a contribution toward the bold policy changes necessary to meet the immediate needs of working people, eliminate poverty and move our country forward with a new President and Congress. Funding to come from monies now being spent on the Iraq war, military budget and tax breaks to the super rich.

1. Immediate Relief

A moratorium on foreclosures and evictions. Reset mortgages so payments are affordable. No bail outs for banks.

Extend unemployment compensation, increase payments and eligibility. Increase food stamps, WIC, children’s health insurance, and low income energy assistance.

Assist deficit-ridden state and local governments so they can preserve services and jobs. Fund “ready-to-go” infrastructure projects.

2. A Peacetime, Green Jobs Economy for All

Enact massive public works job creation to make existing buildings energy efficient, construct new schools, hospitals, affordable housing, mass transit and bridges. Priority to areas hurt by loss of manufacturing, loss of family farms and highest unemployment areas including the Katrina-devastated Gulf Coast.

Major clean, affordable energy development project for solar, wind and biomass electricity generation. Immediate program to cut greenhouse gas emissions and for environmental cleanup. Restore Federal energy regulation and encourage public ownership of utilities.

Enact the Employee Free Choice Act to enable workers to form unions without intimidation and win higher wages and benefits, dignity and respect.

Enact HR 676 the US National Health Insurance Act to provide universal health insurance with single-payer financing. Fully fund public education from pre-school through higher education and technical training. No privatization of Social Security or Medicare. Expand and improve benefits.

3. Restore Civil Rights, the Bill of Rights and Separation of Powers

Restore Civil Rights Act enforcement, affirmative action in employment, education, and housing. End the “school to prison” pipeline. Outlaw hate crimes. Preserve Roe v. Wade.

Pass immigration reform with legalization, a path to citizenship, due process, no militarization of the borders, and no exploitative guest worker programs. No human being is illegal.

Repeal Patriot Act. Restore Habeas Corpus rights. No more torture. Investigate and prosecute Bush administration violations of the Constitution.

Expand voting rights. Enact publicly financed elections, same day registration, voting rights for ex-felons, verifiable voting equipment, and instant runoff voting. Restore Fairness Doctrine in media.

4. Strength through Peace

Withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq with no bases or U.S. corporations left behind. Full care for returning veterans. No war on Iran or expansion of troops in Afghanistan. Assistance to Iraqi people to rebuild their country.

Adopt a new foreign policy of diplomacy and respect for all nations, instead of preemptive war for corporate interests. Renew commitment to UN peace role.

End trade policies that enrich corporations while destroying jobs. Ratify Kyoto Treaty and other climate change agreements.

Enforce nuclear non-proliferation, work to abolish nuclear weapons. Cut Pentagon spending in half, close down US bases around the world.

Vote November 4 as if your life, and your future, depend on it!

Defeating the right wing is the first step in the struggle to end exploitation, poverty, racism and war inherent in capitalism.

The Communist Party USA and Young Communist League participate in today’s movements confident that they set the stage for more fundamental change tomorrow.

Throughout our 88-year history we have defended the interests of the working class, fighting for unity and democratic rights. Today we are guided by our motto, “People and Nature Before Profits.”

Our vision is a socialist USA, that opens the way for equality, world peace, real democracy, a society in which people control their own destinies in a sustainable world.

Lawsuits accuse police in Calif. of failing to protect black youth against racial attacks

"Racially motivated attacks by gangs on black teenagers has created a “toxic environment” that forced families out of a California city and has left at least one teenager dead, said attorneys for the families of several teens.

"The attorneys said Wednesday that the December 2007 fatal shooting of 14-year-old Vernon Eddins in front of his middle school in Union City and another recent incident at a Hayward mall were not isolated incidents, but part of a pattern of violence and persecution of black teenagers by a local Hispanic gang."

How Has Obama Changed Black America So Far?!?

"I realize that being one of the few voices of dissent during all this made me sound like the consummate crab in a barrel (word to Tavis), but my Negro Spidey Sense just gets agitated when I hear such proclamations. Reality is, folks have never changed by osmosis, change is a gradual, difficult, and painful process that requires patience, hard work, and sacrifice. And lets not forget, for all the progress made last November 4th, only 65% of eligible blacks even bothered to turn off Judge Mathis and head down to their local polling place. If you can’t get Negroes to simply show up and pull a lever, how likely are you to get them to suddenly become Cliff Huxtable and raise their damn kids?"

Question for President Barack Obama

The Lesson of an Affirmative Action President

"You don't pick brain surgeons by the color of their skin. You pick them by competence only. Same thing with airplane pilots. But we have allowed the profoundly irrational liberal media to persuade the American public that we are supposed to pick a U.S. president by affirmative action. Obama was elected to universal Hosannas because he is black. It wasn't a secret. That's why the Left around the world went into ecstasies when Obama ran and got elected."

and

"Meanwhile, blacks are still suffering from the pervasive social pathology of the inner city -- almost all self-inflicted, with the help of the welfare state. Europe shows exactly the same results, except that the victims of welfarism aren't black, but mostly white and Muslim immigrants. American blacks today are more bitter and more racially enraged than ever before, after forty years of affirmative action. Affirmative action hasn't helped women, who now have to work two jobs, one at home and one for income, especially because so many men have walked away from their families under liberal cultural values. Reverse-racism has actively hurt generations of children, who have grown up in broken homes as a direct result of pernicious social policies which Obama has actually tried to make worse. One of the first things he did was to reverse Clinton's welfare reform so that social pathology in the black community can spread its poison even wider and deeper. Obama isn't good for black people -- but then, blacks consistently vote for those who do them the most harm."

Read the last sentence over and over again.

Blaming Whitey

"By convincing whites of guilt by association, the Left can induce them to act against their own best interests. Sheepish whites will give up first-class health care and sacrifice Granny for reasons of "justice." Or they'll embrace illegal aliens, even if this means a degraded standard of living.

"Brainwashed Americans will even risk their own safety and excuse crime. ('It's not my mugger's fault. He's a victim of white privilege.') They'll offer up their own children to hostile public schools for the utopian vision of multiculturalism.

"They'll do anything, in fact, to get that scarlet letter 'R' (Racist) off their backs. Most disturbingly, guilty whites will support a president who obviously despises them.

"Think I'm exaggerating about Obama? Just witness his contempt on any given day, whether he's demeaning Middle America, or Sen. Scott Brown's truck, or the Cambridge Police.

"And behold Obama's friends: Eric Holder, who is revolted by our nation of cowards, and Michelle Obama, whose enraged speeches, caught on tape, can make your skin crawl.

"For possibly the first time in our history, we have leaders who can't stand most of the people who elected them. And Obama and his crew are working overtime to get whites to detest themselves too."

Has Obama become bored with being president?

"At a Jan. 17 Martin Luther King Day event at Washington's Vermont Avenue Baptist Church, Obama brought up the fact that many people see him as almost preternaturally calm. 'I have a confession to make,' Obama said. 'There are times I'm not so calm ... when progress seems too slow ... when it feels like all these efforts are for naught, and change is so painfully slow in coming, and I have to confront my own doubts.'

"Obama said it to be inspirational, but the fact is, in the past, that's when he looked for a new job."

George Will: Faux Contrition: Obama Blames the Public

"Acknowledging that the longer the public has looked at the legislation the less the public has liked it, he blamed himself for not 'explaining it more clearly.' But his faux contrition actually blames the public: The problem is not the legislation's substance but the presentation of it to slow learners. He urged them to take 'another look at the plan we've proposed.' The plan? The differences between the House and Senate plans are not trivial; they concern how to pay for the enormous new entitlement."

London Telegraph: State of the Union: Barack Obama gets an F for world leadership

"Obama’s world leadership in his first year in office has been weak-kneed and little short of disastrous. He has sacrificed the projection of American power upon the altar of political vanity, with empty speeches and groveling apologies across the world, from Strasbourg to Cairo. He has appeased some of America’s worst enemies, and has extended the hand of friendship to many of the most odious regimes on the face of the earth. Judging by the State of the Union address tonight, we can expect more of the same from an American president who seems determined to lead the world’s greatest power along a path of decline."

Voter Views on State-of-the-Union Points

"In his speech, for example, the president called for taxing banks to repay bailouts. Most Americans like the general idea of a tax on large banks to help repay the bailout money. Voters think that only banks that received the bailout should pay the tax though, and 72% believe that other financial institutions like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should also pay the tax.

"The president presented the $787-billion economic stimulus package as a success story. However, just 35% of voters believe the stimulus plan has helped the economy, while 31% believe it hurt. At this time, 39% are concerned the government will do too little to deal with the economy while 49% fear it will do too much.

"Obama said the unpopular bailouts saved the economy. He’s right that they’re unpopular. By a two-to-one margin, voters still believe they were a bad idea. Voters are evenly divided as to whether they helped or hurt the economy in the short-term. However, voters overwhelmingly believe the bailouts are bad for the long-term health of the economy.

"The president spoke about small business issues at a time when just 29% of small business owners say conditions for their businesses are getting better. That’s up seven points from a month ago, but 43% still say conditions for their business are getting worse.

"On the housing front, just 55% now say buying a home is the best investment a family can make. That’s down from 79% in 2008. The public was way ahead of Treasury officials on dealing with the reality of the mortgage crisis

"The president asked Congress to counter the recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance. However, public reaction is mixed: 26% agree with the decision, 34% oppose it, and 41% are not sure. Sixty-five percent (65%) also say corporations and unions should be allowed to buy ads to let people know how politicians voted on issues.

"Voters still say deficit reduction is the most important priority laid out by the president last February. They also believe it is the presidential priority least likely to be achieved.

"The president referenced the Congressional Budget Office analysis that suggested his health care plan would reduce the deficit. However, most Americans don’t believe the numbers. Voters overwhelmingly think the plan's costs will be higher than projected, and 81% say passage of the plan will likely lead to higher middle class taxes. Sixty-eight percent (68%) say it will increase the deficit

"Most voters continue to oppose the proposed health care plan.

"Sixty-one percent (61%) now want Congress to drop health care and focus on jobs.

"On Afghanistan, the president reaffirmed the strategy he outlined a couple of months ago. Most voters agree with his plan to send more troops in, and a slightly smaller number support his plan to begin withdrawal in 2011. However, few agree with both aspects of the plan."

Alito mouths "not true" as Obama criticizes Sup Ct for opening floodgates to special interests

Obama's Big Speech: NO Pivot, Just Lies, Misdirection and Shifting Blame to Others

For Example:
  • The speech opened in typical Obama fashion, blame Bush
One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted – immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.
  • He followed up by continuing his war against American Industry.
For these Americans and so many others, change has not come fast enough. Some are frustrated; some are angry. They don’t understand why it seems like bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded but hard work on Main Street isn’t; or why Washington has been unable or unwilling to solve any of our problems. They are tired of the partisanship and the shouting and the pettiness. They know we can’t afford it. Not now.
  • Then another attack on American Industry
To recover the rest, I have proposed a fee on the biggest banks. I know Wall Street isn’t keen on this idea, but if these firms can afford to hand out big bonuses again, they can afford a modest fee to pay back the taxpayers who rescued them in their time of need.
Here the President forgot to mention that some of his buddies that received TARP funds, GE Capital (Part of General Electric), and GMAC (Part of General Motors) but were exempt from the regulation. Or that these taxes are taking away money from the people who fuel the engine of our economy.
  • Lies/Misdirection about Taxes
Let me repeat: we cut taxes. We cut taxes for 95% of working families. We cut taxes for small businesses. We cut taxes for first-time homebuyers. We cut taxes for parents trying to care for their children. We cut taxes for 8 million Americans paying for college. As a result, millions of Americans had more to spend on gas, and food, and other necessities, all of which helped businesses keep more workers. And we haven’t raised income taxes by a single dime on a single person. Not a single dime.
Many of those income tax cuts were not cuts at all, but rebates to people who pay no taxes. And while he did not raise INCOME taxes, he raised other taxes that effect the poor, like the cigarette taxes.
  • Lies about The Stimulus Plan.
Because of the steps we took, there are about two million Americans working right now who would otherwise be unemployed. 200,000 work in construction and clean energy. 300,000 are teachers and other education workers. Tens of thousands are cops, firefighters, correctional officers, and first responders. And we are on track to add another one and a half million jobs to this total by the end of the year. The plan that has made all of this possible, from the tax cuts to the jobs, is the Recovery Act. That’s right – the Recovery Act, also known as the Stimulus Bill. Economists on the left and the right say that this bill has helped saved jobs and avert disaster. But you don’t have to take their word for it.
Its hard to believe that he actually used that two million Jobs numbers with a straight face. And there are more economists that believe the stimulus was a waste, and according to most of the Polls, most Americans Believe it was a waste too.
  • Time to Bash America, We are not as good as China:
Next, we can put Americans to work today building the infrastructure of tomorrow. From the first railroads to the interstate highway system, our nation has always been built to compete. There’s no reason Europe or China should have the fastest trains, or the new factories that manufacture clean energy products.
  • A Call For Another Porkulus, despite the fact that America Doesn't want one.
The House has passed a jobs bill that includes some of these steps. As the first order of business this year, I urge the Senate to do the same. People are out of work. They are hurting. They need our help. And I want a jobs bill on my desk without delay.
  • Time To Bash Bush Again
We cannot afford another so-called economic “expansion” like the one from last decade – what some call the “lost decade” – where jobs grew more slowly than during any prior expansion; where the income of the average American household declined while the cost of health care and tuition reached record highs; where prosperity was built on a housing bubble and financial speculation.
Even worse than the Bush bashing is the fact that he does not recognize the roll that Congress had in creating the housing bubble, especially his buddies Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.
  • Self-Contradiction
One place to start is serious financial reform. Look, I am not interested in punishing banks, I’m interested in protecting our economy.
But wait scroll up, didn't he bash the banks at least twice in this speech so far?
  • An Unintentional Light Moment?
The House has already passed financial reform with many of these changes. And the lobbyists are already trying to kill it. Well, we cannot let them win this fight. And if the bill that ends up on my desk does not meet the test of real reform, I will send it back.
Remember when he said that he would veto any bill that had earmarks? Did he do that?
  • Here Comes Cap and Trade Again-You must have it because I say so
I am grateful to the House for passing such a bill last year. This year, I am eager to help advance the bipartisan effort in the Senate. I know there have been questions about whether we can afford such changes in a tough economy; and I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change. But even if you doubt the evidence, providing incentives for energy efficiency and clean energy are the right thing to do for our future – because the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy. And America must be that nation.
The scientific evidence is UNDERwhelming. With each passing day there is new evidence that man made global warming is an Al Gore Fraud.
  • He Just doesn't understand the way buisness works.
...we need to export more of our goods. Because the more products we make and sell to other countries, the more jobs we support right here in America. So tonight, we set a new goal: We will double our exports over the next five years, an increase that will support two million jobs in America.
A noble goal, but to do that you need to cut taxes, you need to streamline regulation. You cant just shove our products down the throats of people in other countries.
  • College is a Constitutional Right? Government takeover of College Loans.
To make college more affordable, this bill will finally end the unwarranted taxpayer-subsidies that go to banks for student loans. Instead, let’s take that money and give families a $10,000 tax credit for four years of college and increase Pell Grants. And let’s tell another one million students that when they graduate, they will be required to pay only ten percent of their income on student loans, and all of their debt will be forgiven after twenty years – and forgiven after ten years if they choose a career in public service. Because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they chose to go to college.
College is not a constitutional right.

Beyond the economic effects of this proposal, it waters down the quality of education. Before NYC started with "open enrollment," the City College system was amongst the best in the country, afterward....well, when was the last time you heard of a great scholar coming out of Brooklyn College?
  • Health Care Lies?
Our approach would preserve the right of Americans who have insurance to keep their doctor and their plan. It would reduce costs and premiums for millions of families and businesses. And according to the Congressional Budget Office – the independent organization that both parties have cited as the official scorekeeper for Congress – our approach would bring down the deficit by as much as $1 trillion over the next two decades.
Not true at all, unless you play some of their cute numbers tricks like putting ten years of tax revenue with only seven years of expenses. And most reports, including ones from the CBO and HHS say that the program will actually INCREASE costs for most Americans. That doesn't even include the Cadillac Taxes which will increase the burden on the (non-Union) middle class.
  • Americans Do Not Like Obamacare Because They Are Too Stupid to Understand Obamacare
Still, this is a complex issue, and the longer it was debated, the more skeptical people became. I take my share of the blame for not explaining it more clearly to the American people.
  • Another Obamacare Lie
But if anyone from either party has a better approach that will bring down premiums, bring down the deficit, cover the uninsured, strengthen Medicare for seniors, and stop insurance company abuses, let me know.

How can his plan strengthen Medicare for seniors when it cuts $500 billion from it?
  • I Swear It Wasn't Me-It Was Bush
So let me start the discussion of government spending by setting the record straight. At the beginning of the last decade, America had a budget surplus of over $200 billion. By the time I took office, we had a one year deficit of over $1 trillion and projected deficits of $8 trillion over the next decade. Most of this was the result of not paying for two wars, two tax cuts, and an expensive prescription drug program. On top of that, the effects of the recession put a $3 trillion hole in our budget. That was before I walked in the door.
The Republican-led congress increased the federal budget by $800 billion from 2001 and 2006. After the Democrats took over the federal budget was increased by $900 billion from 2007-2009. President Obama was in the Senate for most of that time (when he wasn't campaigning). H/T Ed Morrissey of Hot Air for that historical fact.
  • Like Hunting Elephant With a Cap Gun
Starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. Spending related to our national security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will not be affected. But all other discretionary government programs will. Like any cash-strapped family, we will work within a budget to invest in what we need and sacrifice what we don’t. And if I have to enforce this discipline by veto, I will.
This is the what the freeze will save

And keep in mind the freeze does not cover Obamacare. Also the president is talking about a three year freeze and he is talking about what the freeze will save over ten years. What will it save over three years?

If the President held back the unspent Porkulus funds and put the TARP money returned by banks to the bottom line, the federal deficit for fiscal 2010 would be cut by over $500 Billion. But to execute that plan he would have to be serious about cutting the budget.

This is what George Phillips GOP Candidate for the House seat in NY's 22nd Congressional District said about the freeze:
"President Obama's State of the Union address was delivered in his typical, eloquent fashion, and it is encouraging to hear that he has finally realized what so many Americans have known for some time. The real concerns of our citizens today are the need to stimulate job growth and reign in the reckless spending we've witnessed during this administration thus far. Unfortunately, a temporary spending freeze which affects such a tiny portion of the budget is a small step in the correct direction. While saving $250B over ten years is a nice idea, it fails to carry much weight in an environment where Congress is running up a roughly $200B deficit each and every month. The President simply failed to offer a bold enough vision to rein in spending and create jobs. The real solution is to be found in broad tax cuts for small businesses and individual Americans which will get this country going again."
  • He Really Doesn't Understand Business Part 2
But at a time of record deficits, we will not continue tax cuts for oil companies, investment fund managers, and those making over $250,000 a year. We just can’t afford it.
Actually we can't afford NOT to. These are some of the people who create jobs, the more you tax them the more you take away their ability put people to work.
From some on the right, I expect we’ll hear a different argument – that if we just make fewer investments in our people, extend tax cuts for wealthier Americans, eliminate more regulations, and maintain the status quo on health care, our deficits will go away. The problem is, that’s what we did for eight years. That’s what helped lead us into this crisis. It’s what helped lead to these deficits. And we cannot do it again.

"It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now ... Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus." – John F. Kennedy, Nov. 20, 1962
  • More Lies and Mistruth
That’s what I came to Washington to do. That’s why – for the first time in history – my Administration posts our White House visitors online. And that’s why we’ve excluded lobbyists from policy-making jobs or seats on federal boards and commissions.
Actually the reason for posting the visitors online, is that the White House lost a lawsuit.

As for the lobbyists, that is a huge fib, here is a partial list I received in an email from Erick Erickson of RedState.com
    • Eric Holder, attorney general nominee, was registered to lobby until 2004 on behalf of clients including Global Crossing, a bankrupt telecommunications firm [now confirmed].
    • Tom Vilsack, secretary of agriculture nominee, was registered to lobby as recently as last year on behalf of the National Education Association.
    • William Lynn in the Pentagon as Deputy Defense Secretary. Mr. Lynn was a lobbyist for Defense Contractor Ratheon. I guess the Deputy Defense Secretary is not a policy-making job.
    • William Corr, deputy health and human services secretary nominee, was registered to lobby until last year for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a non-profit that pushes to limit tobacco use.
    • David Hayes, deputy interior secretary nominee, was registered to lobby until 2006 for clients, including the regional utility San Diego Gas & Electric.
    • Mark Patterson, chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, was registered to lobby as recently as last year for financial giant Goldman Sachs.
    • Ron Klain, chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden, was registered to lobby until 2005 for clients, including the Coalition for Asbestos Resolution, U.S. Airways, Airborne Express and drug-maker ImClone.
    • Cecilia Munoz, White House director of intergovernmental affairs, was a lobbyist as recently as last year for the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic advocacy group.
