London Telegraph: Barack Obama's tax on banks is disingenuous
"Banks will always find a way of pricing the customer for any new tax imposed, so the President’s vow 'to get our money back' is faintly disingenuous. What taxpayers recover from the levy they’ll only be charged for via the banking system. Nor does the new supertax do what it is meant to. Virtually all the affected institutions have already repaid the direct assistance, with interest. The $117 billion relates largely to the use of 'Tarp' funds for other purposes – the rescue of auto manufacturers and insurance companies. Those with the money (the banks) are being asked to subsidise those without (the obsolete car-makers of Detroit)."
